Stories and kids are my passion. I love middle grade books and picture books the most, but I read many genres. My writing hinges a lot on identity. As kids grow, they need to learn who they are and understand the importance of their identity from a young age. I also love combining heart and humor. Great books make us feel something and they stay with us, long after the last page is read.
My writing has won some contests (See ACCOLADES below!) and I'm involved in many writing groups: SCBWI, CCW, Write2Ignite, Courage to Create at The Writing Barn, a mentorship with Bethany Hegedus, classes with Hannah Barnaby, Rajani LaRocca, and Cate Berry, and I'm an active member of my critique groups.
I spend time regularly writing and working on manuscripts, but when I'm not at my computer you can find me cooking, checking cows or helping on the ranch, watching track meets, listening to music, or reading. I also love writing blessings for people. Feel free to click the blessings tab if you're interested in faith based blessings. You can find my agricultural blog at cowboywife.net. What do agriculture, blessings, and kidlit have in common? Well, they are all part of me and each of them a unique way to express nurturing.
I have been freelance writing for magazines for over ten years. I have a column in Progressive Cattle about ranch life. I live in Montana with my cowboy. We have 3 young adult kids.
Writing for youth is rewarding because I still feel like a kid-at-heart.
